Allied Telesyn's Newest Media Converters Enable Routerless LAN to WAN Connectivity

Network extenders create a new way to derive point-to-point connections over the traditional telco service network easily and economically

February 27, 2001- Allied Telesyn International (www.alliedtelesyn.com), a worldwide leader in simplifying IP networking for businesses of all sizes, today announced its innovative solution to the remote access challenge - a complement of network extenders that allow simple, easy point-to-point connectivity across DS3, T1, ISDN and copper lines. Starting at as little as $349, Allied Telesyn's new LAN extenders come in 12 variations for configuration flexibility, and four point-to-point starter kits that combine both provider and subscriber side units in one box.

"Allied Telesyn's new family of network extenders brings a simpler way to create site-to-site, point-to-point links over DS3, T1, ISDN, and copper lines," said Jim Berthot, Allied Telesyn's Head of the Americas and Senior Vice-President. "By eliminating the need for costly routers, they streamline the connection, speed-up installation and significantly reduce the cost of implementation."

The ease of use and cost-effectiveness of Allied Telesyn's network extenders make them a perfect alternative for branch office, district-wide and cross-campus connectivity. They provide a great solution for corporate to remote branch connection via T1 or ISDN; for front-ending an Allied Telesyn Rapier 24 or other Layer 3 switch's Ethernet ports across a T1 or DS3 circuit; or for remote connectivity to buildings connected by a single pair of copper wires. All of the members of the new extender family are IPacket Technology™ compliant1 and therefore optimized for IP services.

Available now, the extenders carry US list prices from $349 to $8995; the subscriber/provider kits are $695 to $2995. The multi-port models are configured in standard or -48v DC power supply. They all carry Allied Telesyn's 1-year warranty.
