Allied Telesyn’s Newest Router Makes Branch Offices More Accessible

The feature-packed, modular AT-AR740 is perfect for locations where value, reliability, high data throughput and flexible connectivity options are key

Bothell, WA, October 2, 2000 - Allied Telesyn International (www.alliedtelesyn.com), a worldwide leader in simplifying networking for businesses of all sizes, today announced the newest addition to its family of routers, the AT-AR740. Building on the strengths of the highly successful AT-AR720, the AT-AR740 offers enhanced performance, port density and connectivity options in a flexible and customizable architecture. Priced aggressively at $2695 U.S. List, the AT-AR740 beats the competition in overall value - not just price - by providing all of the basic router operating and management software that others sell as 'options', and backing it with a 1-year warranty and free technical support.

"The AT-AR740 router makes remote connectivity easy - it's the perfect solution for connecting together multiple branches or distributed regional offices," said Vince Ricco, Allied Telesyn's Senior Vice President of Sales. "With such a rich feature set as standard, it's easy to recognize the strong value proposition. Everything you need is included with the router; it's easy on the budget, and there are no hidden or 'surprise' costs".

The AT-AR740's high-performance and modular design makes it the perfect solution for a variety of WAN applications, including corporate T1 access concentration, business ISP T1 access concentration, high-density ISDN access services, and VPN (virtual private network) concentration. Designed to support organizations with anywhere from four to 500 WAN access clients with different combinations of basic and primary ISDN, frame relay, X.25, T1 and dial-up analog support, these routers have the features to serve businesses well today, and the flexibility to evolve with technology tomorrow. The unit is designed with minimum footprint in mind, and it is available as standard 19"rackmount in an extremely compact 1U package.

Allied Telesyn's emphasis on standards-based features that guarantee full interoperability with existing networks while keeping an eye toward future growth is apparent in this router. The flexible, expandable AT-AR740 features two auto-sensing 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports, two asynchronous ports, two open PIC (port interface card) bays, one open NSM (network service module) bay, which can accept a further 4 PICs, and one internal MAC (mini accelerator card) slot. PICs and NSMs are the key to the AT-AR740's flexibility and expandability - as the network grows and evolves, keeping up is as easy as adding a module. NSMs make the AT-AR740 router virtually future-proof - as new technologies or requirements emerge, they can be added-on easily in the form of a new NSM.

The AT-AR740 router is shipped complete with AlliedWare™, operating system software with advanced features for security, management and performance, right in the box. It is available now, at a US List price of $2695 ($2995 for the 48v DC version) that puts it hundreds of dollars below the competition. And even though it costs hundreds less, the AT-AR740 delivers more, by coming complete with state of the art IPsec network security, VPN capability, and all of the software that you need to get up and running. The competition charges more still for that.

Recognizing that the AT-AR740 will often be used in mission critical applications, the unit is also available with an external redundant power supply (RPS) that fully protects against loss of the internal power supply.
