Allied Telesyn Makes High-Performance Gigabit Switching Accessible

New Managed Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 switches have it all: speed, reliability, affordability

Bothell, WA, May 1, 2000 - Allied Telesyn International (www.alliedtelesyn.com), a worldwide leader in simplifying networking for businesses of all sizes, announced today a new family of Gigabit Ethernet switches that put simplicity and affordability into Layer 2 Gigabit switching. Well-configured to serve as a backbone switch for small to medium-sized businesses or education environments, the new feature-rich AT-9006SX/SC delivers flexible port density and media configuration options at a compelling price point. Allied Telesyn will be showing this and others in its line of simple, affordable networking products at NetWorld+Interop 2000 Las Vegas, May 9-11, in booth #4057 in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall.

"Breaking through the $1000 per port price barrier with a full-featured, high-performance switch like this is a significant accomplishment," said Vince Ricco, Allied Telesyn’s Senior Vice President of Sales. "The AT-9006, quite simply, puts Gigabit backbone connectivity within reach for more networks."

The AT-9006SX/SC managed Gigabit Ethernet switch has six 1000Base-SX ports (SC connectors), and two expansion slots for enhanced flexibility. Optional expansion slots can be used to add 10/100TX ports (four per expansion module) or 100FX ports (two to four per expansion module, depending on connector) for up/downlinks, additional Gigabit ports (1 per expansion module), or a combination of the options.

Each Gigabit Ethernet port on an AT-9006SX/SC switch supports half or full-duplex operation and is IEEE 802.3z auto-negotiating compliant. Running in full-duplex mode, each Gigabit port can provide up to 2000Mbps of aggregate bandwidth. With six 1000Base-SX ports, the AT-9006SX/SC provides an aggregate throughput of over 8.8 million packets per second (up to 11.8 million packets per second when configured with eight 1000BaseSX ports). The AT-9006SX/SC supports up to 12K MAC addresses and has 4MB of memory per port.

The 6-port modular, managed Gigabit AT-9006 switch with advanced features such as Web-based management, standards-based IEEE 802.1p Priority Queuing and 802.1Q VLAN Tagging that make it easy to install, integrate and manage. Its is available now.
